"Mrs Murdock?"

Bonnie fixes a grin as she answers the door to her next door neighbour. Specifically, the chairwoman of the Rose Ladies, the society encompassing most of the other (mostly housewife) women on the street. They had tried to recruit Bonnie when she first moved into the area, though it was quickly withdrawn when they saw the rest of Bill's biker friends come in convoy down the road. Since then, Bonnie made it her business to tick them off whenever she fancied, as well as outdo them every year at the county fair.

"Mrs Butler. How may I help you?"

"What is that monstrosity in your driveway?" Mrs Butler asks, with wide eyes.

Bonnie leans over, theatrically, and looks at her driveway. Oh yes, of course, that thing she picked up from that very nice man yesterday.

"You never saw a boat before?"

"I don't think you can call it a boat." Mrs Butler says, raising an eyebrow and looking at the wreck. "More like an eyesore."

"It'll be a boat when I fixed it." Bonnie says. "It'll give the boys something to do when they come over."

"For goodness sake, Bonnie!" Mrs Butler folds her arms. "Your boys have grown up and left, it's time you stopped bringing trash home all the time. We all have guests, you know, it's too bad that we have to bring them past your... house."

"It ain't that bad, and none of your business if it was." Bonnie says, folding her arms. "So it's a little untidy."

She knows, however, that Mrs Butler has a point, which makes it more annoying. Bonnie has always had... something of a magpie's eye when it comes to bringing things home to repair. That and letting the boys try their hand at any sort of home décor they fancied, both the front and back yard have accumulated junk, half and fully built brick walls, and various attempts at decking and paving. After a while she stopped caring what it looked like, providing she could get from one part to the next.

"A little untidy?" Mrs Butler throws up her hands. "Land sakes, Bonnie, you're clearly lonely, stop your tinkering and get a dog or something."

"Cain't get a dog, Grover don't like them." Bonnie says firmly. "It's my property, I'll build what I like."

She closes the door on the indignant neighbour. Mrs Butler has touched a nerve, and she doesn't like it. Ever since the last of her foster kids left, the house has been boring and quiet and nothing she can build can take more than the edge off it. Sure, some of the boys do come around often, and some of them even bring their own kids, but in between it's quiet and boring and argh.

"Nosy old hag." she comments to the middle picture on the fireplace. "Nothing wrong with restoring a boat, it'll give Ernest something to do when he comes over."

The picture of Bill grins softly back, as always, in approval.
