Dec. 2nd, 2015 07:57 pmThe kids were accepting when Turtle offered to take them all out to get a Christmas tree. It made sense; his truck was more able to accommodate five people and a tree. Lucy had got some one to one tutoring work, so she waved them off and gave Bonnie a surreptitious wink.
It was important to Bonnie that, if anything did eventually progress with Turtle, the kids felt comfortable. They didn't have a good history with fathers and stepfathers - the boys' mother's second husband had been neglectful and cruel before he eventually took their mother away, and Terry's father John hadn't exactly treated her well either.
The kids didn't, so far, seem to have suspected anything. Though it may be their excitement, never having been able to pick out a Christmas tree before, and they all set off running down the lot looking for a good one.
"So." Turtle scratches his beard. "Are we, er, still casual?"
"At the moment." Bonnie says, looking up at him. "Where do you think we're going?"
"Well I don't think we should rush into anything." Turtle says.
"Agreed." Bonnie nods. Really, it's been... fun. It's made a difference just spending time physically close to someone, feeling their warmth. She has to admit that she'd missed sex. But sneaking around a couple of times a week, while exciting, is bound to sooner or later catch someone's attention.
"Turtle?" she looks back up at him. "This is fun but I don't want to lead you on and give you false promises. If you got some distant view of us one day walkin' down the aisle, I cain't promise that. I don't know if I can go through that again."
"No promises." Turtle agrees. "Lord knows my first marriage was a disaster. If what we do now works, I don't see no reason to force things." He stops to inspect one of the trees contemplatively. "We've been companions with or without the sex nigh on thirty years."
Bonnie motions for him to hush as Terry comes bounding back up.
"Mr Turtle, did you bring an axe?"
"Sure did." Turtle says, following her. "Did you pick out one you like?"
