Cache-hunter
[NOTE: this game is not restricted to the MilliScouts, anyone willing to play by the rules is welcome to take part. MilliScouts are eligible for the Cache-Hunter badge]
This is a treasure hunting game similar to Geocaching, except Milliways doesn't as far as I know have its own satellite, so the players will have to be a little more creative with their descriptions.
Basically: you hunt a box or small hollow object and others find it based on clues or descriptions. What makes it slightly different from regular treasure hunting is that when you find the cache, you log your name on the paper inside it, and you can swap an object with whatever is inside the box.
And this is how it'll get fun, because I'm willing to bet that the folks of Milliways might have some pretty interesting everyday objects to trade.
Bonnie will set you up some caches to get started, but the idea is pups set up their own too. There is no time limit.
So...
How to Play
1. Pick a cache from the list below to find.
2. Have your pup/pups find it, or not, whichever you prefer. When they find it, log your find below. IC they will do this on a piece of paper or notebook inside the box.
3. If you find it, they have the option to swap an object of yours with whatever is in the box - log this below also straight away. The object you find in the box is whatever is last logged, so if someone gets there before you, tough luck, sorry. You don't have to make the swap but if you do, you must put something back in.
4. Put the cache back exactly as they found it.
5. Hunt another cache (you can come back to the same cache to exchange another object later, as many times as you like, but if you're working for the badge you only count each cache once).
Ideas and guidelines for objects
As a general rule, objects should be safe to fall into the hands of a five year old.
Your object should fit in the named container. E.g. if it's a matchbox, you could put in a coin but not a pair of gloves.
Examples might include coins or stamps from your world/time, postcards, small toys, pretty buttons or beads, the sort of things you might get in a cracker, craft items, or trackable objects that might pass from one person to another.
From Geocaching - 'A Trackable is a sort of physical geocaching "game piece." You will often find them in geocaches or see them at geocaching gatherings. Each Trackable is etched with a unique code that can be used to log its movements on Geocaching.com as it travels in the real world. Some of these items have traveled hundreds of thousands of miles thanks to geocachers who move them from cache to cache!'
Your object must not be any of the following:
- A living creature (non-dangerous seeds and bulbs are fine)
- Dangerous (weapons, ammunition, drugs, traps, poison, explosives, broken, sharp, diseased, cursed etc)
- Sexually explicit (condoms, porn, naughty playthings)
- Something your pup wants back - once it's been traded you have to negotiate with whoever found it.
- Trash
- Food or heavily scented items. No smell cheating on this game.
- Stolen property (i.e. someone else's car keys)
- Something that screws with the finder or another pup's universe e.g. the One Ring, a dragonball, a Death Note
- Significantly magical e.g. a wand, a broomstick, cursed pirate gold. (Something insignificant and harmless like a remembrall would be ok).
If in doubt ask (guppymun on AIM), and don't be a jerk.
Okay got it, how can I set up a cache myself?
1. Pick a location which should be:
- Somewhere that people can generally tramp around without causing trouble
- Not too close to someone else's cache (look at the ones below)
- Not on private property (e.g. don't put one inside the Forge without asking the Forgemuns)
- Accessible to everyone (i.e. not in the girls toilets). It can be in a difficult place e.g. in a tree but if that's so please make it clear in the description. Ideally you should not need to be a superhero to reach it.
- Not modding other people's stuff/making any layout modifications (if in doubt Bing is the Layout mod).
2. Decide what your cache looks like. What kind of container is it? What's in it?
3. If in any doubt ping me (guppymun)
4. Log your cache on this page. If it's not on here, it doesn't exist.
5. Have fun!
