You may wish to do this in conjunction with the power/hand tools or Engineer - Sledge" badge.

If you wish to use Power Tools you must have completed the Power Tools badge.

Woodwork

Level 1


1. Show how to saw a piece of wood at a 90 degree angle and make a butt joint.
2. Using wood cut at a 45 degree angle (either from the bar or cut by an expert) show how to make a mitre joint.
3. Make a simple item such as a picture frame, a box, a bird box, a tool box etc OR complete the Engineer - Sledge badge using at least one wooden joint.


Level 2

1. Complete level 1.
2. Using a chisel, demonstrate a dovetail joint and a birdsmouth joint.
3. Make a more difficult item than you did for level 1, such as a child's toy, a side table or chair (must support weight), a bookshelf, a spice rack, a record/CD rack etc, or complete Engineer - Sledge using largely wood as your material, if you did not do this for level 1. You may get wood cut for you if it requires a power tool.


Level 3
1. Complete level 2 and the Power Tools badge.
2. In addition, learn to use a lathe. Make an item using this such as a chair leg/candle.
3. Construct a large or complex piece of furniture, such as a cabinet with drawers, a cat tree, a boxcar, a bench or similar. Please consult a qualified adult if you need the circular saw.

Safety equipment: Goggles and gloves.
